It’s time for the second round of the Swing Blue Blog Tour!  This month’s theme was “Guys & Patriotic Vibes,” which is perfect considering we just celebrated Memorial Day, Independence Day is just around the corner, and I just flew back from the nation’s capital!

I wanted to make little man something classic, so immediately thought jeans.  For some reason, little man is opposed to wear anything with zippers and/or buttons.  It’s a shame because I really like the way he looks in denim.  Solution – make him shorts out of stretch denim with an elastic waistband!  I got some stretch denim from So Sew English for a pair of Pickle Toes Patterns Snail Hunters.  These are definitely one of our go to patterns.  It’s a classic look with large cargo pockets, which are always a hit with little boys.  Even though the fabric had a little bit of stretch, i used the regular width to ensure that he would be able to run and play without feeling restricted (another reason why he hates jeans).  Success!

I had been so busy with school that I still hadn’t gotten a chance to play with my new toy!  My poor Cricut was still in its box on the corner of my sewing table.  So I decided to test it out and make a fun shirt using the Ellie and Mac Discoverer tee and some heat transfer vinyl.  For the front, I used some plain white DBP, but I spiced it up by using red stripes for the back and white stars on navy for the color blocked portion of the top and the sleeves.

Now we’re definitely ready for some fireworks!
